After spending several hours hiking Taughannock Falls State Park, I visited Robert H. Treman State Park. Located a few miles southwest of Ithaca, it encompasses much of the Enfield Creek Gorge and its waterfalls.

So, what do you call a waterfall if it has no water? Leaving Robert H. Treman State Park, I drove to nearby Buttermilk Falls State Park. But there was only a trickle of water tumbling down the falls, so I took a few photos of the waterless falls and left without following the gorge upstream in the park.

I drove into Ithaca close to Cornell University. There I hiked along a part of The Cascadilla Gorge Trail, which separates Cornell from the city. The trail follows part of Cascadilla Creek, which was almost dry. What little water was flowing appeared to come from drainage pipes emptying into the waterway.

Returning to my hotel for the night, I detoured to see (and drive across) the Newfield Covered Bridge. Built in 1853, it is claimed to be the oldest covered bridge in daily use in New York State.
It being dark, these aren’t the best photos of the bridge and its surroundings, but they do show the interesting construction. It has stood the test of time.

For the second day of my brief Finger Lakes vacation, I stayed in the vicinity of Watkins Glen and Seneca Lake. I began the day at the most well-known of the Finger Lake parks, Watkins Glen State Park.
The park contains the gorge created by Glen Creek as it descends 400 feet over 19 waterfalls before emptying into Seneca Lake. This year the bottom portion of the Gorge Trail was closed to allow rebuilding of one of the footbridges which cross the creek.

Leaving Watkins Glen State Park, I drove a couple of miles south to the Montour Falls Historic District and Shequaga Falls, at the end of a nice little village park.
It appears that there is disagreement as to how to transliterate the Native American name for the falls.

I had been told about this waterfall, very off the beaten path. Still in Montour Falls, less than a mile south of the center.
Well hidden in a small town park, you can walk right through it for a free shower!
