Home / My Travels / Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar, September 2019 / Nazare Portugal, September 9, 2019 39
I left Coimbra, again in mid afternoon, as I had to reach Lisbon that evening. Along the way, I decided to take a little side trip to Nazare, a beach town on the east coast of the Atlantic Ocean. It turned out to be a very nice, well maintained kind of touristy place. It apparently is an attraction for surfers, with giant waves, but not when I was there. There is a Funicular railway to another part of the town at the top of a cliff overlooking the beach.
I chose to dip my toes in the Atlantic. This part of Portugal is almost due east of where I live on Long Island, New York. This was the first time I had ever been in the water on the east side of the Atlantic.
After taking a few more photographs, I then walked in my now soggy sneakers, back to my car.
